Vestax VCI-100 Arcade Edition with Traktor Pro 2
May 1st, 2012 by Mark Vella-West

Hi Guys,

We have been using the Vestax VCI-100 Arcade edition with Traktor Scratch for quite some time now.  It is an AWESOME unit which actually had most of the features of the newer NI Traktor Kontrol S4 at least 12 months before the S4 was released!

VCI-100 Arcade

Vestax VCI-100 Arcade

With the introduction of Traktor Pro 2 however, we had some issues using all of the features of the VCI-100 Arcade.

We searched through DJTechTools.com and managed to find an awesome TSI file which works with Traktor Pro 2!

CLICK HERE to download the Traktor Pro 2 TSI file to be used with the Vestax VCI-100 Arcade

PLEASE NOTE: Both Mac & PC users can download the above file to be used with Traktor Pro 2!

Download the file, open up Traktor Pro 2 and allow it to load fully.

Then, press the Settings Icon the the Top Right hand side of the screen.  Then select the IMPORT button on the bottom of window.  Select the TSI file depending on your Firmware version (most older units have the 3.6.4 Firmware)

Now plug your Vestax VCI-100 Arcade into your PC or Mac and it should light up correctly! Have fun!

Credit goes out to the DJTechTools team for not only creating these units, but also supporting the hardware with Traktor Pro 2!

How to Record & Encode your own Music on Hold for the Cisco Small Business SPA9000
Mar 2nd, 2012 by Mark Vella-West

Hi People,

If you are like the iT Support Squad team, you probably have responsability for a LOT of different Hardware & Devices, all over the place, with varied functions and configurations.

One great thing is that a lot of the newer hardware has the ability to save the Configuration & Image files.

As well as that, some device allow updates to things like Music On Hold, System Images etc. allowing you to really exploit the features of the unit.

One particular unit which we here at iT Support Squad use multiple times daily is the Cisco SPA-9000 Voice Server.  After 5 years of administering and maintaining these awesome mighty little units, we have been able to create Config scripts to apply nearly every neat thing an Australian Small & Medium business could possibly want; plus more :)

One thing which TFTP allows in particular with the Cisco SPA9000 is the updating of Custom Music On Hold files.

Firstly, using a Mac, go to this link to download an App which will help with this process (yep; you read right; iT Support Squad is using MAC OSX for testing purposes / iT SUPPORT SQUAD NOW SUPPORTS MAC OSX FOR MAINTENANCE & SUPPORT REQUESTS)

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11116/tftpserver

That appears to be a great little app that will allow you to use your Mac OSX to UPLOAD the Audio Files to the SPA-9000 using the TFTP Protocol (as required by the Cisco SPA-9000 & many other network devices).

The next step is to Record & Encode your AUDIO FILES to the EXACT SPECIFICATIONS as required by the SPA-9000.

Please see the following specific settings we used, using the TOTALLY AWESOME Open Source Audio Tool known as Audacity (please click here to DOWNLOAD AUDACITY)

  1. Open PREFERENCES
  2. Select Quality, and Change the Default Sample Rate to 8000Hz
  3. When EXPORTING your Audio, ensure you use Uncompressed Export Format and select AU (Sun / Next 8 bit u-law)
  4. When ready with your Audio (keep the segments 50 Seconds or less), select Export AU from the File Menu
  5. In the SAVE AS dialog box, be sure to change the EXTENSION to .dat (not .AU) ….simple name your file something like MyAudio.dat (ignore any messages Audacity may give)…we need the file in .dat format for the SPA-9000

NOW TO UPLOAD THE MUSIC ON HOLD CUSTOM MUSIC TO THE CISCO SPA9000

  1. Using your favorite browser, open your SPA9000 Admin Console (ie. http://spa9000_IP/Admin/voice/advanced where http://spa9000_IP is the IP Address of your SPA9000)
  2. Click the Voice tab and select SIP
  3. Scroll to the Internal Music Source Parameters Section

This is a great document created by Cisco which has the following piece, perfect for explaining this process:

MoH SPA9000

DOCUMENT DOWNLOADED FROM CISCO.COM

Well if you maintain either your own SPA9000 or many different devices for your Clients, this instructional piece should serve to offer yourself & your Clients more functionality of an otherwise already brilliant Small Business Voice System!

Simply use Audacity to create your own Custom & Modern Voice Recordings, then encode & upload them to your Voice System!

For those who prefer to use a Radio or Line IN source for your Music on Hold, KEEP POSTED!  iT Support Squad has successfully connected both a RADIO Input & a Live Internet Radio Stream into our SPA9000 Music on Hold Server!  The results were actually quite interesting!

Until then; Adios Amigos

How to create a Print Screen (screen capture) on a MAC
Feb 17th, 2012 by Mark Vella-West

If you are like me and know most of the keyboard commands & shortcuts on any Microsoft platform, you may be lost when you start using the Mac OS.

I have recently been using my Mac a lot more for different business related functions. One thing which came up as a small issue was my inability to take a simple Print Screen (as we call it on Windows).

  • To capture the entire screen, press Command+Shift+3.
  • To capture part of a screen, press Command+Shift+4.

For even MORE fun features on the Mac OS, you can capture a window or object by using this last method; or, follow these steps to get a more precise screenshot:

1. Press Command+Shift+4.

Again, the cursor turns into the cross-hairs icon.

2. Press the spacebar.

The cursor turns into a camera icon.

3. Move the Camera cursor over the window or object that you want to capture.

When you move the cursor over an object, it becomes highlighted.

4. After you highlight the window that you want, click the mouse anywhere on the window or object to take the screenshot.

Have fun with these built-in features of the Mac OS!

Cisco Small Business Phone System (SPA9000) IVR Codes
Jan 24th, 2012 by Mark Vella-West

This is a post for all of the Cisco Voice Specialists out there currently implementing or supporting the Cisco SPA9000 Voice System.

Here @ iTSupport Squad we have implemented the Cisco SPA9000 Voice Systems for around the last 6 Years now!  We have implemented almost 100x LIVE Cisco Voice Networks around Australia; 100% of which are STILL ACTIVE as I write this!

In the scheme of things; the Cisco (formally Linksys) SPA9000 & SPA400 units are a brilliant Digital & Analouge Telephone system for Small to Medium businesses.  In fact; initialy our Parent Company was relocating offices due to an increase in staff members and therefore required a new Phone System.  After 2 years or so researching; installing and configuring different systems, the SPA-9000 & SPA-400 units prooved to be the best bet for our requirements.

Given at least 60% of the iTSupport Squad Clients have offices of 20x staff or less; the 16x Handset limitation is actually not a problem most of the time!

If you Administer & Support the Cisco SPA9000 Voice Systems, you probably often require the IVR codes.

Please see the IVR codes for the SPA9000 unit below (be sure to use a Handset plugged into the SPA9000 LINE port) and press ‘ * * * * ‘ to access the IVR:

Cisco SPA9000 Voice Network :: iT Support Squad are Cisco Voice Specialists
Dec 21st, 2011 by Mark Vella-West

Hi All,

As you will probably know by now, iT Support Squad was one of the first Victorian Partners for the Cisco Small Business Voice Network!  In fact we performed in-house testing of the Linksys / Cisco SMB VoIP Hardware from 2002 – 2006!  It was not until 2007 that we were accepted as Certified Voice Partners!

Since then iT Support Squad has Supplied / Installed / Maintained & Supported over 80+ individual SMB SPA9000 VOICE NETWORKS!  Every Cisco SPA9000 + SPA400 SMB Voice Network supplied has been installed & maintained since the installation date!  That is every single unit is STILL ACTIVE & ONLINE – some for 4+ years!  We even use the SPA9000 + SPA400 for our own business sites!

We were indeed very proud of the fact that we performed the study and exams to be able to genuinely Source / Supply & Support the CISCO SMALL BUSINESS VOICE NETWORK Products; including though not limited to the following components:

SPA9000 Digital Voice Server :: 16 Handset Ability with 4x SIP Accounts

SPA400 Voice Mail Server with 4x PSTN LINE AUTO FAILOVER

SPA942 / SPA962 Handsets

SPA504 / SPA508G Cisco Small Business Handsets

Cisco Receptionist Console

Cisco Ethernet to Wireless LAN Adapter for VOICE PRODUCTS

For less than AU$1000 you can have the SPA9000 Voice Server + SPA400 Voicemail Server ACTIVE & RUNNING in your Business!

Cisco Handsets for around AU$200 ex mean that your Company can be using a CISCO SMALL BUSINESS VOICE NETWORK for LESS THAN $2000!

Cisco Linksys SPA21000 Voice Adapter Firmware Update 3.3.14
Dec 21st, 2011 by Mark Vella-West

Hi People,

Please see the attached file for the CISCO (formerly known as Linksys) SPA2100 FIRMWARE for Australian supported units :: FIRMWARE 3.3.14

Our Online Store division AustechExpress.com has been supplying the Cisco SPA2100 for around 5+ years! In our Industry that is a LONG TIME!  For a product to sell for so long it really must have proven itself!  Not only is the unit a BRILLIANTLY STABLE Cisco Small Business 2x Line Voice Adapter, it also works as a 2x LINE FAX ADAPTER without much ado!

iT Support Squad uses the SPA2100 with the SPA9000 Small Business Voice Networks they have been installing like HOTCAKES in the last 18 Months!  The SQUAD is literally performing an SPA9000 SMB Network Install DAILY!  Nearly all Small Businesses these days have a FAX line listed on some sort of business or advertising materials.

For Our Company we really only RECEIVE FAX, so a FAX to PDF Service worked perfectly!  For a LOT of businesses however, OUTGOING FAXES are as important as INCOMING FAXES.  If this is the case, the Cisco SPA2100 unit is IDEAL!  Not only does it allow for 2x Lines to be connected to either Phones or FAX, it also works within the SPA9000 Voice Network* (works independently).  Please click here to email the iT Support Squad BUSINESS VOICE NETWORK SQUAD or call 1300 858 909 for more information now!
